The Piano Woman

The students had not yet arrived so I had an early dinner and a glass of Croatian wine (Zlatan I Plavac…I think) in the hotel bar. This place is nice with flowers and up scale Westin Hotel sort of furniture and trimmings. As I was finishing my wine, a small woman in a red coat trimmed with fur, entered the bar area, crossed over to the grand piano and sat down on the bench. She dropped her over sized purse on the floor and without removing her coat began to play Franz Liszi’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.” There were a few stumbles, but actually quite entertaining. Suddenly she stopped, picked up her phone and left the bar area deep in conversation. The barkeep had no idea who she was, he had never seen her. I love traveling.
