Ron and Becky were in the exercise room at the “Y” practicing the East Coast Swing when I entered for my lesson. I love watching them dance, Ron with his polished positive way of guiding and Becky with her determination to do it right. I sit there and smile, enjoying the process. Soon it is my turn. I had been practicing the twinkle, went to the dance club at the Moose Club and even practiced in the emergency lighting when the power went out with a major storm in the area. I left the dance to run over a curb…I could not see in the rain and night time. Luckily my tires held and after 45 minutes, I got home safely. The trip usually takes 15 minutes. I practiced my toe lifts, I practiced with the chair sliding my foot. I was so ready for this lesson. It was my turn, Becky ran out. Ron faced me and instructed me to go slowly. I did what he did and then came my Ah-Ha moment: in the Waltz, one’s feet do not leave the floor, they slide. Wow, lights went off all over. I will now start over practicing the twinkle, but practicing the right way.
