One week before my journey starts. I remember other journeys like my trip to UGA for the first time when I was a first year undergraduate student. As I go to the stadium tonight for graduation, I am a marshal, I remember. I remember being here for four years and I remember preparing to leave thinking I would never return to Athens. I visited my favorite haunts: the fine arts theatre where I was a costume worker for 4 years, the window in the geography building we would climb out onto the roof to watch the games (before the upper level of the seating was built), and the stroll through north campus, always a wonderland to me. As the students prepare to leave, they aren’t ready to look back at the years between and see where they have been. I can and it gives me a peace that just as I left Athens in 1972, I returned in 1994 and have found a home I look forward to returning to again and again.
